Directions on the handout lead you to collect data on all samples before attempting to I.D. Some people prefer to use flowcharts to I.D. samples one at a time. I have HCl up front if you think you need it to positively I.D. a sample. (NOTE: It is dangerous to eyes and skin! If you mess around with it, you will receive disciplinary action). The only other safety concern is sharp edges (BE AWARE: Glass can cut you! DO NOT handle broken glass)
Also, you need to make sure you are working with the correct sample each time. If your sample has no number on it, check other kits around you or my master kit up front. The same goes for the Moh's hardness kit you are using.

Youtube video from CNN November 2009:

The Truth about our current unemployment rate:
It is being interpreted in different ways just like any data, scientific or otherwise. It is the highest rate since when? Even skilled, educated workers are having trouble; message: that is the MINIMUM criteria you need to have after a few years from right now. Message: get serious about your education, your work ethic, and your professionalism NOW! Why? Competition. Survival of the Fittest.

The Truth about the projected job market in 2015:
Not the greatest, but there are good sectors including science, technology and medicine. Wake up! All that you truly have to rely on are your health, skills, your education and your own work ethic.

What employers are looking for now and then:

Did you put forth your best efforts? Use class time effectively? Complete the realistic number of homework assignments?......sometimes that's really all that it takes to do well. As for everyone who feels that they've performed their best.... keep doing what you're doing, and don't hesitate to go the extra mile. Remember: that which makes a good job candidate stick out is that which will probably get him/her the job. (Confidence and where is comes from: Brief story of an anonymous teacher from last year)

October 9, Friday
Students completed Part 1 of the Mineral I.D. Lab (samples 1-7). Directions on the handout lead you to collect data on all samples before attempting to I.D. Some people prefer to use flowcharts to I.D. samples one at a time. I have HCl up front if you think you need it to positively I.D. a sample. The only other safety concern is sharp edges (BE AWARE: Glass can cut you!)
Also, you need to make sure you are working with the correct sample each time. If your sample has no number on it, check other kits around you or my master kit up front. The same goes for the Moh's hardness kit you are using.
